MUSCAT: Parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining areas in Oman are expected to receive scattered rainfall, thunderstorms and hail on Tuesday, October 20, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Oman Meteorology said satellite images indicate that local clouds have started forming over parts of the Al Hajar mountain range, with cloud development expected to intensify and expand over the coming hours.

The developing clouds could bring scattered rainfall, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, strong downdraft winds and hail in some areas.

The authority also warned of the possibility of flash floods and water flowing through wadis and streams in mountainous areas and nearby regions as a result of the expected rainfall.

The forecast, based on the Omani numerical weather prediction model, indicates favourable conditions for the development of thunderclouds during the afternoon.

Meanwhile, generally clear skies are expected across most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

Low clouds and patches of fog are also likely to develop over parts of the coastal areas overlooking the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea during the late-night and early-morning hours, potentially reducing visibility.

In Dhofar Governorate, rising dust is expected over desert areas, which could also affect horizontal visibility.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution in areas affected by fog and dust, while residents in mountainous regions should remain alert to sudden weather changes, strong winds and the possibility of flooding in wadis.
